Bill has created wealth from IPR for decades often for market leading American companies. He has formed, led and developed IPR intensive businesses globally, lived in 4 countries and is involved in TMT venture capital for High Net Worth and Ultra High Net Worth individuals and family offices. He is an FCA approved (UK Financial Services Regulator) and a CFA candidate whilst already qualified with an MBA (Finance) an being and accountant and an engineer.
He’s led R&D intensive industries, performed music professionally and in dramatic works, written for various publications, and won an EU Online award for online excellence.
He’s chaired and spoken at global conferences on topics ranging from smart devices and mobility, copyright and technology, mobile user experience, digital rights strategies, convergence, intellectual property rights, digital media, mobile security, privacy, broadband, SME policy, media and entertainment, content management, user generated content, social media, Chinese IT industry, technology innovation in financial services, social banking / investment, Internet / IP TV, Big Data, public relations in high technology industries etc. He recently participated in a UK government mission to Korea and Japan on TMT and was a major contributor to the report, participated in and spoke at Chinese conferences on IT and IPR, has been a contributory author to a mobile internet industry leadership book (Mobile Web 2.0), has written for Money Management and was a contributor to US Jupitermedia’s DRM watch (now Copyright and Technology). He is a recognised insider on intellectual property and rights management globally, having stimulated UK government reviews and engaged with WIPO.
He was the keynote speaker at the launch of the UK’s report on Digital Rights Management.
His policy work in UK and EU has provided exposure to directives, programs and developments. He recently supported World Economic Forum (Davos) initiatives on impact of technology innovation on future financial services (published) and media and entertainment global industries (published). His engagement with UK government probably led to the formation of the Gower’s Review on Intellectual Property Rights to which he also contributed. He’s led the leading Pan European Trade Association in its industry and transformed it into a policy entity, thereby engaging with EU on a range of topics including Digital Rights Management.
He has led and developed national, European and global converging communications, internet, media, mobile, technology and IT businesses for over 30 years with Fortune and Times 100 companies, often their largest international businesses. He has also led SME market leaders and been instrumental in forming many new entities to success and / or IPO / trade sale. He has led businesses in over 20 countries, been “resident” in 4, has traded with over 65, and is a former board director of businesses in 20 + countries. His experience has ranged from critical turnaround and restructuring, to business formation and rapid growth, to transformations, cross border, multi-site and international jurisdictions’ commerce, including leading and developing economies. He has also undertaken investment, M&A, venture and private equity work globally. His customer base has ranged from B2B and large global multinational accounts to consumer markets and retail. He has formed, developed, built and led many businesses in the TMT / internet / mobile convergence industries across a number of markets, often in parallel. Some he cofounded and could be termed entrepreneurial. Additionally he has significant exposure to the retail, financial services, payments, health, education, electronics, defence, and security industries. He’s been a thought-leader on convergence and next generation policy in UK and EU, led major strategy projects for blue chip companies, and been a member of the leadership teams of Fortune 100 and FTSE 100 businesses.
He is a former Member of the UK Government’s Broadband Stakeholder Group Executive, Freeman of City of London, Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists, former Director and Member of the Executive Committee of BritishAmerican Business Inc. New York and London, former Director and CEO of European Competitive Telecommunications Association (ECTA), former Director of London First, Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (Ret’d). He is a member of the CFA Society of UK, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, the Pensions Management Institute, the Institute of Metals and Mining, and a subject matter expert with EU’s FP8 R&D program on internet, innovation, SME’s and enterprise competitiveness. He was recently a BAFTA Award judge.
